Best Towable Tubes For 2, 3 or More People

We don’t doubt that you can spend a whole weekend just chilling on your deck with a fishing rod and a few cold ones. Or a newspaper, a book, and a cup of your favorite tea. However, if you decide to throw a big party on your pontoon involving different ages, you’d better prepare some alternative ways to have fun, especially for the teens and kids. And what better way to keep all that energy and enthusiasm under control than to give them a ride on a towable tube behind your boat?

When it comes to shopping for a towable tube, you will have to think about a couple of aspects. The first and most important one is the number of people that will want to ride it at the same time. Of course, you can’t always please everyone, but if you have two or three children who might want to bring a friend along sometime, you’d better opt for a bigger towable toy. Another important aspect is the price – but worry not, we will teach you exactly how to choose the best towable tube for any situation. But for now, let’s focus on what’s on the market, shall we?

Here are our Top 3 picks for 2-person towable tubes:

Table of Contents

#1 WOW Sports WOW World of Watersports Secure Cockpit Seating Towable

If your kids aren’t used to riding towable tubes on a regular basis or are too young for anything too extreme, the WOW Sports WOW World of Watersports Secure Cockpit Seating Towable is a perfect towable tube for them. This unit is a boat-shaped inflatable tube with a raised back seat for more comfort and security. It has towing enforcements on both the front and the back so that you can play with it a bit to find the perfect position.

If your little ones or anyone of your guests are a bit iffy about trying out towable tubes – they should feel pretty comfortable in this one – it has lots of handles with knuckle guards, the backrest ensures more stability, and the depth of the “boat” minimizes the risk of falling over the edge. This towable is also pretty easy on your ‘toon’s fuel consumption, grace to its low-speed bottom that reduces drag.

The WOW Sports WOW World of Watersports Secure Cockpit Seating Towable comes with a nylon cover to protect it when not in use. Find the latest price and more details about this unit here:

The tube includes two neoprene seats and two handles with knuckle guards and measures 76” in length. It also comes with a 1-year limited warranty, which is a really nice touch for the price (which is about half that of the WOW Sports).

#3 AIRHEAD AHTB-12 Turbo Blast Inflatable Towable

If your guests or kids aren’t afraid of getting their feet wet, you can try going for the AIRHEAD AHTB-12 Turbo Blast Inflatable Towable. This is a pretty unique, triangular-shaped towable tube with two seats and four neoprene handles with knuckle guards. The towing enforcement of this unit is at the front tip of the triangle, which makes the tube raise slightly when pulled by the ‘toon. It is definitely a more extreme experience than any of the above, but if you have teenage children or a couple of friends who think they’ve seen everything, give them a ride on this tube. Just make sure everyone is wearing an inflatable vest – as falling off this unit is much easier than falling off the double dog or the WOW boat.

The price and the quality are typical for Airhead (in other words, a great balance between the two). To find out more about this model and maybe get your own, click the link below:

If you think you’ll have more than a couple of people willing to take a ride behind your ‘toon, you might need to go for a 3-person towable tube instead. Worry not, as we’re here to introduce you to some of the best quality 3-person units on the market.

As we mentioned before, this tube is an all-time favorite. The Airhead hot dog comes in a three-person capacity as well, has the same neoprene seats and handles on both sides, and comes with a heavy-duty Kwik connect to secure it to your pontoon. A cool aspect of this tube is that it has three separate air chambers – two for the “bun” parts and one for the center “hot dog” part, which makes it much easier to inflate and deflate it without losing air. It measures 103”  in length, and can technically be used by 1 or 2 people as well – just make sure the weight is evenly distributed so that the tube doesn’t collapse.

#1 WOW World of Watersports 13-1060 Dragon Boat

Do we even have to say anything about this one? It’s a dragon inflatable boat! It fits up to four people, but does that even matter when you can get your own damn dragon boat? Just kidding, this towable tube is actually an excellent choice for towing four people around the lake, and we like that the ridges between the seats, or rather “the winding back of the dragon”, will make the experience more comfortable. The handles are on these ridges as well, so that your guests can hold onto something in front of them rather than onto something beneath the seat. It includes an 11 inch 4K EZ tow connector and a cover with a heavy duty zipper.

The 11 World of Watersports is one of the best rated WOW towable tubes, but the price is still really affordable. Find out more about this unit here:

#3 Island Hopper 5 Passenger Inline “Heavy Recreational” Banana-boat

These are mostly targeted at saltwater towing, but they’ll do just great in freshwater as well (as soon as there’s enough room on the lake). It has a frown towing enforcement with a stainless steel toggle, so you can be sure that it don’t rust or break, regardless of the conditions.

These were all our recommendations regarding towable tubes for 2, 3, or more people that work perfectly with pontoon boats. To avoid making a mistake and going through the hassle of returning a towable (which can be quite a pain, believe us, we’ve been there), you’ll have to consider a couple of things to take sure you take the correct decision. When shopping for one, you need to consider three main aspects, which are:

#1: The number of people that will be in for a ride. We know it can be hard to make super-precise assumptions, as you can always have more guests than you expected, or have your kids bring in one more buddy. But try to think critically – if you have two kids, chances are that they will want to bring one or two more friends on the boat with them. It would be better to opt for a 3 or 4-person towable rather than stick with a 2-person one and have them stay in line for a ride (we all know how much kids hate waiting!

#2: The power of your engine. This will directly influence the weight you can tow with your pontoon without overheating the engine or remaining without fuel in the middle of the lake. There are plenty of examples online on how to calculate the maximum tow weight based on the engine’s hp and the boat’s weight, so make sure you check with that, before buying a huge banana boat.

#3: You’ll have to choose a brand. As of right now, the towable tube market is dominated by two brands – WOW and Airhead. WOW units tend to be slightly more expensive, but some of them come in rather unique shapes and sizes, so you might want to pay the extra buck for that. Airhead is mostly famous for its hot dog and double dog tubes, and they are usually cheaper than WOWs. However, you can also find interesting shapes among Airhead models, and they will be less expensive than WOW. You can also stumble upon other brands, such as Island Hopper, but the might be bigger as they are oriented towards saltwater use.

We hope you found our guide useful in your search, and that our list of products gave you some ideas and inspiration about what to look for in terms of towable tubes.

I have that Popparazzi towable, the one where you can lay on your belly, and it’s the best towable I’ve ever had, even my wife’s been enjoying it and she’s not about that towable tube life! Probably wouldn’t be great for kids under 10 but great stuff for teens and adults!
